Mouse Wars
Casey and I are in the midst of an epic battle with mice. They are quick, they are agile, and we are fighting to re-stake our claim on the kitchen. For those of you who know how much I love to cook, this battle goes straight to my heart. This is personal. I am tired of having to wash every piece of kitchenware I have in hot water BEFORE I can cook, and AGAIN after I cook. It is exhausting.
Round 1: Technology
To aid in our war, my parents offered us a device that you plug into the wall. It is supposed to send some sort of sound wave that discourages mice from hanging around. I was so excited, I put it right smack dab in the middle of my kitchen counter. A few hours later, as I was sitting on the couch, you can imagine how my soaring joy came to a rather abrupt and rude halt as I looked over and saw a mouse sitting on the exact device that was to keep those pesky rodents away. Are these genetically engineered mutant mice??? What the hell???
Round 2: Mouse Traps
Casey bought another round of mouse traps and we promptly caught 7 in less than a 24 hour period. Great! So I decided to clean out the cupboards. I washed, scrubbed, cleaned, disinfected for hours and hours. When I finally got to the last cupboard I carefully pulled out my pots and pans. As I was doing this, I heard some scuttling and saw a blur of grey fur. "Guinness!!!" I called. Thankfully, Guinness comes running when I call him (again - he thinks he is a dog). He came and sat next to me and I said, "Come here, I have a job for you," as I grabbed him. He heard the mouse scurrying around in there, too, and was ready to launch. I opened up the cabinet door, and I shrieked (I don't know why, probably because the vicious mouse with rabid fangs and foaming at the mouth was going to jump out at me??? Maybe.) Guinness leaped into the cupboard and came out with his prize.
Occurrences such as this have happened 3 times so far in the last two weeks. He knows the drill and has made an art of it.
The mice keep growing, though, and they seem to be endless. Although our mouse population in our kitchen has dramatically decreased, there are still way more than what I want, i.e. I don't want any.
So much for the cute, furry little creature we rescued a couple of months ago...
